THE LOVETONES - "Stars" b/w "It's Not Over Yet" 45 I met Matthew Tow while he was playing guitar on Brian Jonestown Massacre's spring tour in 2003. I didn't know shit about his past efforts with underground psych legends Drop City, or that he was even from the far off southern continent of Australia. I did know he was a hell of a guitar player and an incredibly nice guy to boot. In the midst of drinks he told me about The Commitee To Keep Music Evil's plan to release the first album by his new group, The Lovetones. If you know anything about Anton's vision and track record for producing and finding dementedly wonderful modern psych records, then you know how god damn great this band is. Anton soon burst in with a glowing praise "They sound like the fucking Beatles!" Sorta hard to go anywhere from there, but I was intrigued. Several months later a disc showed up with two wonderfully crafted songs. Without any hesitation the songs were sent to the plant and this fantastic edition of 300 copies was born.
