"Prozac vs. Heroin" b/w "Nailing Honey To The Bee" 45

Long before the new wave of rock revivalists decided it was cool to put their leather jackets back on, grow their hair long and recommit their lives to SD&R, West Coast Stones-y psychedelic experts Brian Jonestown Massacre were busy keeping the eternal flame of dark, dangerous rock burning at both ends during the long cold winter of corporate grunge and "alternative rock."

Yet, despite their role as the very crucial missing link between the Nuggets-era bands who started it all, the '80s noise gods like Jesus & Mary Chain and Spacemen 3 who kept it going, and the current crop of throwbacks who have brought the style back in vogue, BJM have been left out of the national critical conversation. It's enough of an oversight to warrant conspiracy theories. Perfect.

BJM leader (and only constant member) Anton Newcombe is the kind of twisted genius who can weave conspiracies together in such a fashion that it would make Oliver Stone's head spin. It's paranoia as art form -- the drug-induced ramblings of a stoner on a friend's couch amped up to the degree of a master's thesis. Newcombe is the kind of wild, enigmatic figure who is right about so many things that it makes you wonder if he might be right about everything. He's scary and intoxicating and musically gifted, and characters like him are the best chance rock 'n roll has got to save itself from itself. - Jason Moon Wilkins

Both "Prozac Vs. Heroin" and "Nailing Honey To The Bee" are brand new unreleased cuts from the deliciously twisted mind of Anton Newcombe. Two roaring and swirling psych ballads for an acid drenched future. This record is limited to 500 copies.
